Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model has increased over $8,700 in its best bets since the restart, hitting tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model predicted that Jon Rahm would finish at the top of the leaderboard in both the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model took the second major win of Rahm’s career over the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead going into the third round, but the template still projected him as the winner. It was the model’s second consecutive Masters victory, which also secured Scottie Scheffler’s victory in 2022.
Furthermore, the model included Nick Hardy and Davis Riley in her best bets to win the Zurich Classic 2023. That bet reached +4,500 and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned over $1,100. McClure’s best bets also included Jason Day winning the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, although he has not won a PGA Tour event since 2018.
This same model also hit nine major majors going into the weekend. Anyone who has followed has seen massive returns.
Now that the 2023 US Open field is taking shape, SportsLine has simulated the tournament 10,000 times and the results have been staggering. Head over to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard for the 2023 US Open.
Top 2023 US Open Predictions
A big surprise that the model awaits at the US Open 2023: Cameron Smith, a six-time PGA Tour winner and a top favorite, stumbles this week and barely manages to make the top 15. he has not finished in the top five in any of the majors this season. Smith was outside the top 30 at the Masters in April, shooting 4-over-par.
He finished ninth in the PGA Championship in the second major of the year, but never challenged for the title. Smith has struggled at the US Open in recent years, failing to make the top 35 since his debut in 2015. He has missed the cut in each of his last two US Open tournaments, so the model sees no value in support Smith in short golf odds in this year’s edition. See which golfers should disappear here.
Another surprise: Viktor Hovland, a 25-1 shooter, makes a good run for the title. He is a target for anyone looking for a big payday. Hovland is still chasing his first major title but looks set to strike in the near future after finishing seventh in the Masters and second in the PGA Championship.
Hovland has been one of the most consistent golfers on the PGA Tour this season, winning all 14 tournaments. The Norwegian ranks fourth in total shots and seventh in strokes gained from the tee, so he has the necessary metrics to excel on this course. SportsLine’s model identified a lot of value in Hovland as a longshot for the season’s third major, especially as he has three top-seven finishes in majors. See who else to pick here.
